About the Artist

Salauimatagi Anneliese Tuiletufuga Tilo, known as Sala, is a Samoan artist and member of a traditional women's weaving collective. Her work is deeply rooted in the rich heritage of Samoan craftsmanship, using "Afa" coconut fiber to create garments and headpieces that honor ancestral techniques while addressing contemporary issues.

During her Climate Action Artist Residency in Germany, Sala explored the intersection of traditional weaving and climate science. Through research at the University for Sustainable Development Eberswalde (HNEE), she expanded her knowledge of coconut fiber properties and integrated new scientific insights into her artistic practice.

By weaving together cultural heritage and scientific understanding, Sala fosters dialogue on climate change, sustainability, and indigenous knowledge in environmental resilience. She created one garment in Germany and is now crafting a second piece in Samoa, further connecting global vulnerabilities through her artistic practice.
